Lesson 2: Communication as a key role for EH professionals

This lesson focuses on communication, which is a key role for EH professionals in their daily work and also when responding to an emergency. It presents different types of information that you will be conveying and interpreting for the public and others, and where you fit in and how you work within the Incident Command structure.

After you complete this lesson, you will be able to:

• Describe how public health ordinances help prevent emergencies.
• Describe how environmental health fits into an Incident Command Structure.
• Assume an appropriate risk communication role in emergencies, which depends on the structure of the organization.
